A Binghamton man is facing five years in prison for a drug-related crime.

According to the Broome County District Attorney’s Office, 40-year-old Richard Harmon pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree on Wednesday.

Police said that on Jan. 12, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office saw a motorcycle speeding with no front or rear lights on. The deputy turned on his emergency lights but Harmon fled.

Harmon’s motorcycle stalled and he tried to escape on foot, but was taken into custody and found with methamphetamine and $1,900 in cash.

Harmon was arrested again on March 29 when he was driving a different motorcycle and speeding. He once again led police on a chase before driving into a ditch and fleeing on foot.

During that arrest, Harmon was found with three bags containing more than 2 ounces of meth.

Harmon will be sentenced on Feb. 12, 2025. He will also serve two years of post-release supervision.
