Congress has passed measures to keep the government open and the president says he will declare a national emergency to protect the southern border. Both of those headlines has drawn a response from local congressman Anthony Brindisi. In a statement released last night, he said that Shutdowns hurt everyday Americans and threaten our country’s safety and security. This deal is not perfect, but it is an important step to help secure our border and keep our country safe. As for the president, Brindisi said he opposes the declaration and agrees with members on both sides of the aisle that such actions set a dangerous precedent and undermine the role of Congress and the constitutional separation of powers.
