Democrats plan to meet later this week to discuss Vice President Kamala Harris’s presumed presidential nomination.
Democrats also plan to meet virtually next month to host a roll call of nominations for the Democratic presidential candidate, Fox News reported.
This report follows an announcement from President Joe Biden on Sunday that he is stepping down as the presumed Democratic nominee from the 2024 presidential race.
President Biden announced his decision to step aside from the race and also endorsed Harris as a potential presidential candidate on Sunday on X, formerly known as Twitter, as The Center Square previously reported.
The spotlight has been on Harris ever since she was endorsed by Biden for the presidential race. Harris is predicted to be the likely candidate for the Democrat’s presidential ballot.
Some Democrats have already backed Harris as a potential presidential candidate, while others have not endorsed her, as The Center Square previously reported.
Harris confirmed her plans to run for president in a post to X, formerly known as Twitter, following Biden’s endorsement. She said on X that she is “honored” to receive the president’s endorsement.
The announcement of Biden dropping out of the race caused a stir for the Democratic party, especially as they are only a few weeks out from the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
The DNC is one of the most highly anticipated political events of the year, with delegates and politicians planning on coming from all over the country to attend the convention.
This year’s convention set to take place in Chicago from August 19 to August 22.
Many questions remain surrounding the outcome of the Democratic bid for president following President Biden’s decision to withdraw.
There has been much speculation over who Harris could choose as a potential vice presidential running mate as she campaigns for president, as The Center Square previously reported.
