In response to President Joe Biden announcing he will not run for reelection and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic nominee, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis echoed what other Republicans have said: she hasn’t been honest about Biden’s mental and physical ability to perform the duties of president.

“Kamala Harris was complicit in a massive coverup to hide and deny the fact that Joe Biden was not capable of discharging the duties of the office,” DeSantis said. “She also was the border czar during the worst border crisis in American history,” reiterating a claim made by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and others.

Regardless of who Democratic delegates choose at the Democratic National Convention in August, DeSantis said, “Democrats are just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.”

Biden’s announcement on Sunday comes less than a month after his disastrous performance at the presidential debate on June 27. After the debate, during which Biden could not complete sentences and appeared to be disoriented, DeSantis said he “witnessed the unofficial end of the Biden campaign. It will either officially end at the DNC this summer when they replace him, or it will end this summer or will end in November when he suffers a resounding defeat to Donald Trump.”

He also said he didn’t think Biden “could serve another four-year term” or “even get through another seven months. I think this country is in very serious trouble with him at the helm …”

U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, Florida’s former Republican governor, went a step further, calling on Biden to immediately resign.

“If Joe Biden can’t run for re-election, he is not capable of serving as president for the next six months and needs to resign NOW!,” he said.

“Joe Biden shouldn’t be running our country if he can’t run for re-election. This week, I’ll be introducing a resolution to urge the cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment. Biden is not capable of fulfilling the requirements of the job, and that poses a threat to our national security.”

In the House, U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, introduced a similar measure, calling on Harris to invoke the 25th Amendment, which establishes a process to replace the president and vice president under certain circumstances.

Roy’s resolution calls on Harris “to convene and mobilize the principal officers of the executive departments of the Cabinet to activate Section 4 of the 25th Amendment to declare President Joseph Biden incapable of executing the duties of his office and to immediately exercise powers as Acting President.” It also states Biden “has repeatedly and publicly demonstrated his inability to discharge the powers and duties of the presidency, including, among others, the powers and duties of the Commander-In-Chief.”

Roy also argued, “Democrats have now known this for a long time,” referring to Biden’s mental and physical health. “They’ve been guilty of trying to hide it from the American people. They’ve been using him [Biden] as a puppet as a Manchurian candidate to drive their radical agenda.”

Since the debate, dozens of Democrats were calling on Biden to drop out of the presidential race, with more calls added nearly daily.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, asked, “If Democrats believe Biden’s doesn’t have the mental acuity to be their candidate, how can they allow him to continue to be our President?”

Republicans in Florida’s congressional delegation, including several who are military veterans, have called on Biden to immediately resign from office saying remaining in office is a national security threat.
