Two members of Congress who represent the southern tier held town hall meetings on Saturday. In both cases the recent government shutdown and border security were common themes. Republican Representative Tom Reed called the sticking points “political theater.” He said the problem-solvers caucus, which he co-chairs, has been meeting and he believes solutions could be found in short order. Meanwhile, Democratic Representative Anthony Brindisi held his first town hall since being elected in November. He told the 100+ people attending the event in Binghamton that the default in Washington is to spend more time fighting and finger pointing than listening and learning.
