Barbara Fiala Confirmed as DMV Head

After a unanimous vote in the State Senate, Former Broome County Executive Barbara Fiala officially took the next step in her career, becoming the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Senate Deputy Majority Leader Tom Libous, who represents parts of Broome and Tioga counties, said Fiala’s fair and bi-partisan approach to governing will do her well heading the state DMV.
“As a matter of fact, I got along better with you than I did with Republican County Executives. And we got a lot done together. And certainly that’s the kind of cooperation that Barbara will show with all of us and the people of New York State,” Libous said.
Fiala’s career in public service spans 30 years and comes full circle with her new gig. She served as Motor Vehicles Supervisor for Broome County in 1981.
