Binghamton Police Department is investigating a confirmed shooting incident Thursday morning on the street in the area of Belknap Avenue and Emma Street. 911 calls reported multiple gunshots fired at 10:51 a.m. Thursday. Two male pedestrians, who were fired upon, fled the area by foot. They were subsequently located by police patrols. Both males were transported to Binghamton Police Headquarters for further investigation and questioning.


Thus far the investigation has determined that the men on foot had a brief verbal interaction with the shooter prior to the incident. This was not a random act of violence, but one that was intentional and directed towards the men, acquainted with each other. No injuries were sustained or reported by the pedestrians or any others. The suspected shooter is described as a black male in his 20s-30s, operating a black Toyota sedan and in the accompaniment of an unknown race female occupant. So far, no arrests have been made.


Area city streets and railroad traffic were closed for a period of time to accommodate the police investigation, suspect search, search for evidence and the processing of the crime scene.


Binghamton Police Patrols and Detectives were assisted at the scene by members of the Johnson City Police Patrol and Detective Divisions, New York State Police patrols and members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Highway Patrol and Sheriff’s Canine Unit. The scene was processed by the Binghamton Police Identification / Crime Scene Unit.
