On Saturday, May 04 at about 9:00 p.m. the Binghamton Police Department Patrol Division
responded the area of 251 Oak St., Binghamton, for a report of people fighting and an assault in progress. The initial investigation determined that several juvenile females walking in the area had a verbal exchange with two adults in the neighborhood, which led to the commission of a vicious physical attack against the two adult victims by the group of juveniles.
The adult victims involved were a 50 year old woman and her 76 year old father. It was reported the male greeted a group of 4-7 juveniles, by saying ‘HELLO” as he was unloading a parked vehicle and as the juveniles approached on foot towards him. The group of juvenile females responded by being verbally abusive and disrespectful to the male, and his adult daughter. It is reported that the group of juvenile females then physically attacked the adults by intentionally punching, biting, kicking, striking and knocking both adults to the ground by force; causing physical injuries to both adults. Injuries sustained were as follows; lacerations, bruising, swelling, abrasions, a bite wound and other internal trauma. The female was treated by EMS on scene and the male required emergency medical care, and hospitalization for more serious injuries at Lourdes Hospital.
Police detained several juvenile females involved and officers furthered the investigation at that time. Four female suspects were identified, ages; 15, 13, 13 and 12 years of age. No weapons were believed to have been used and no juveniles reported any sustained injuries. The police investigation of the matter was continued into late Saturday, several juveniles were later turned over to the custody of a parent or guardian.
Binghamton Police Detective Division – Juvenile Unit is handling the investigation. Related investigation actions and interviews are continuing, consultation with the Broome County Attorney’s Office is ongoing as charges for these acts are anticipated. The investigation is ongoing at this time. Additional details will be made public if and when such time charges are filed.
