On April 09, Binghamton Police Detectives charged ANTONIO M. JONES (DOB 02/03/2000, 425 Norwich Ave., Taftville, Conn.) with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the Second Degree, both felony offenses. These charges were filed in regards to a shooting in the early morning hours of March 17 at 66 Chenango St., Binghamton.
Jones was developed as a suspect in the early stages of the investigation and was actively pursued by detectives. Jones was being sought both in the greater Binghamton area and Connecticut, where he has known ties. During the evening hours of April 09, Jones was spotted by a Binghamton patrol officer on the Westside. The officer was aware Jones was a wanted suspect in the Chenango Street shooting incident. The officer took Jones into custody on Edwards Street. Jones was unarmed and did not resist arrest.
Jones was transported to police headquarters where detectives charged Jones with the two felonies. It is alleged that Jones had targeted another male who was sitting in a parked car with the intent to kill him. However, the intentionally fired rounds (from a handgun) missed the target and errant rounds struck a female passenger in the car.
The investigation is ongoing and additional persons are believed to be involved. The female shooting victim continues to recover from her injuries. Jones was remanded to the Broome County jail. Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact the Binghamton Police Detectives Bureau at 607-772-7080.
