On March 17 at 4:20 A.M., Binghamton Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the street in the area of 66 Chenango Street in Binghamton. The investigation determined an unidentified person in a grayish or light colored Chevrolet SUV pulled up next to a parked sedan occupied by a male operator and female passenger. An occupant of the suspect vehicle fired multiple shots from a handgun directed at the parked car, striking a female occupant / passenger in the upper arm. The shooting victim was a 19-year old female of Johnson City but her name was not released, nor was the name of driver.

The suspect vehicle fled the area northbound on Chenango Street. It was occupied by the shooter and at least one other person. The investigation has determined that this incident was not a random act, but a targeted shooting; however it is believed the female victim was not the target. The female victim sustained nonlife-threatening injures from one gunshot wound to her upper arm. She was transported to an area hospital by Binghamton Fire Ambulance.

The scene on the street and the targeted vehicle were both processed by the Binghamton Police Identification Unit / Crime Scene Unit. No suspect information is available at this time. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Binghamton Police Detectives Bureau at (607) 772-7080.
