Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell joined the WEBO morning show to discuss the State of Emergency issued in Broome County.  This State of Emergency is in effect due to drug overdoses caused by Fentanyl.  Cornwell says he is trying to prevent further overdose deaths, which have increased from 3 in January, and 3 in February, to 10 in March.  The District Attorney’s office is monitoring numbers and is in collaboration with many treatment agencies in efforts to help reduce overdoses.  The purpose of the State of Emergency is to raise the public’s awareness to this “bad batch” of narcotics that have found their way into our community.  Fentanyl is an extremely powerful synthetic opioid that can kill if ingested, or even simply touched with bare skin.
