New York State Police at Binghamton responded to a crash Tuesday at 2:50pm on Interstate 88 in the Town of Fenton, Broome County. An investigation revealed Douglas A. Peters, age 55 of Amsterdam, NY, was operating a 2013 Toyota Sienna when he rear-ended an unoccupied attenuator truck that was stopped in the passing lane on Interstate 88 west of exit 2.
The truck did have its emergency lights and arrow stick activated. The operator of the attenuator truck was collecting signage and not in a work zone. Peters failed to observe the truck, rear-ended it, then struck a concrete barrier. Peters was ejected after his vehicle struck the concrete barrier.
Peters was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City and is reported in stable condition. He is being ticketed for Failure to Exercise Due Care When Passing a Stopped, Standing or Parked Hazard Vehicle and Safety Belt Not in Use.
