Intoxicated Man Walks into Sheriff’s Office for Pistol Permit, Gets Arrested

While working the desk of the administration lobby at the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy interacted with a male, later identified as William Labar, who entered the Office with a juvenile child in an attempt to visit the pistol permit office for personal business. The deputy observed that Labar was displaying signs of intoxication. An investigation ensued and it was determined Labar arrived at the facility operating a Chevrolet pick-up truck with the juvenile as a passenger. Labar was uncooperative throughout the investigation and refused field sobriety testing and a breath test. He was ultimately charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI for operating while having a minor child under 16 years of age, and endangering the welfare of a child. Labar was processed on the charges and released on appearance tickets. He was directed to appear in the Town of Dickinson Court at a later date. The juvenile child was released to a family member. Labar’s pick-up truck was towed from the Sheriff’s Office parking lot. Arrest was made by Deputy Kevin Griffiths
