Police Arrest Both Woman and ‘Sober Third Party’ for DWI

New York State Police at Binghamton arrested a woman for Driving While Intoxicated after an accident, then arrested her father who claimed to be the “sober third party” picking her up at the State Police barracks at Kirkwood.

According to police, on Saturday, June 29, at approximately 8:08 p.m., when New York State Police at Binghamton arrested Kerie E. Lake, age 46 of Hillcrest, for the misdemeanor of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated. She was also issued tickets for Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, Moved From Lane Unsafely and Imprudent Speed.

The incident started when a trooper was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Hawleyton Road in the Town of Binghamton. The trooper was advised the operator of the vehicle was leaving the scene. The trooper located Lake at a residence in Binghamton.  An investigation revealed that Lake drove the vehicle intoxicated and she was arrested. Lake’s reportable B.A.C. was 0.20%. She was processed and released on appearance tickets to the Town of Binghamton court on July 11.

Kerie Lake’s, father Leo E. Lake, age 70 of Binghamton, responded to State Police barracks in Kirkwood to pick up K. Lake but troopers realized he was not a “sober third party.” Troopers noted L. Lake showed characteristics commonly associated with alcohol impairment. After an investigation, L. Lake was arrested at approximately 11:02 p.m. and charged with the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated, with a reportable B.A.C. of 0.15%.  He was released on appearance tickets to the Town of Kirkwood court on July 11.
