At Charles F. Johnson Jr. Elementary, Akshar recognized 5th grader Winston Rockefeller for being an outstanding student academically, personally and socially. A member of Student Council and Safety Patrol, Winston’s humble, enthusiastic and humorous personality has allowed all of his classmates to think of him as a friend. Winston has also raised a great deal of money for the American Heart Association through the Jump Rope for Heart initiative.

Akshar said, “Whether they’re in 2nd grade or a senior in high school, we want to bring attention to those students who make a difference every day in their own lives and in the lives of those around them. They inspire us all by showing us the good that exists in our communities.”

Each month, Akshar recognizes students selected by their school districts in the 52nd Senate District who have shown great leadership, compassion, school spirit or improvement among their peers. Akshar has recognized students from school districts in Broome, Tioga, Chenango and Delaware counties.

For each student recognized as an “Akshar All-Star”, Sen. Akshar presents them with a T-shirt, framed certificate and a challenge coin.
