State Releases 2010 Sales Tax Revenues by County

Tioga County saw a dip in sales tax revenue of nearly 11 percent last year, according to numbers released by the state Department of Taxation and Finance Office this week.
Sales tax receipts dropped from $18.6 million to $16.6 million in the county.
Broome County saw a small increase of 0.31 percent overall in 2010, but finished strong with a 5 percent increase in the final three months of the year.
The average for the state’s 62 counties was an 8.3 percent increase last year.
Chemung County helped that figure with a 13 percent increase in their sales tax revenue last year, including a 34 percent jump in the final quarter.
Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli says the increase is due to natural gas workers from just over the border in Pennsylvania who live and shop in Chemung.
Tompkins County saw a 3.8 percent increase in sales tax receipts for 2010.
