This was graduation weekend for high schools around the Southern Tier, including at Owego Free Academy. The school held their 143rd Commencement on Saturday morning, and the ceremony was carried live on WEBO. It was the last OFA graduation for Superintendent Dr. Bill Russell, who is retiring this year. He urged the Class of 2016 to stay tough against whatever challenges life may bring.
“I am certain, going forward, that you will come up against some seemingly insurmountable challenges in your lives,” Dr. Russell told the students. “But when you do, I want you to remind yourself that you are from Owego and Apalachin, where resilience is our hallmark, where strength under pressure gets us through the hardest times, and where we learn and grow as we overcome adversity, and where we are bound closely together by our sense of community.”
Graduation ceremonies were held at four Tioga County schools on Friday night – Candor, Newark Valley, Spencer-Van Etten, and Waverly – and at Tioga on Saturday. Congratulations to all of the members of the Class of 2016!
