Return of Cookie Sale Funds Good Works of Tioga County Rural Ministry

Owego, N.Y. — Children and parents able to shop for school necessities. Building a handicapped-accessible ramp for an individual in need. Spring cleanup around a senior’s home. A food pantry for someone struggling to put a meal on the table. And at this time of year, caring individuals adopting families in need to provide gifts for a wonderful holiday. These are just some of the many programs and services for Tioga County residents provided by the volunteers and staff of Tioga County Rural Ministry (TCRM.)

Although located in Owego, TCRM spans to the far reaches of Tioga County, and its mission has evolved in 40-plus years of operation serving the unmet needs of the poor, sick and elderly.

All the good done by TCRM takes funding. An idea took shape about five years ago to sell cookies as a fundraiser modeled after a successful “cookie walk” event in Ithaca. It was then that the annual TCRM Cookie Sale was born. This year, the sale will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 4, in a new location, the Tioga Opportunities Inc. Countryside Community Center on Sheldon Guile Blvd in Owego. A large variety of cookies will be available to purchase, from different ethnicities to traditional favorites in every size, shape, and flavor. The cost for cookies is $9.00 per pound, and 100-percent of the sales benefit TCRM. Cookie lovers can stroll along the tables and select whatever cookies they like. Mixing and matching is encouraged. One very important thing to note is the cookies sell out quickly, so coming right at 10:00 a.m. will ensure the best choice selection of goodies.

For those who enjoy baking, and would like to volunteer their culinary talents, it is not too late. Contact Deb Howard at 607-972-4612. Volunteers are asked to bake six dozen of their favorite cookies and place them in shirt boxes lined with wax or parchment paper. These boxes allow for uniform placement on the tables.
