Cornell University police have arrested a man in connection with an assault that occurred on campus last week.
19-year-old Viktor Nikulin, of Ithaca was taken into custody and charged with third-degree assault.
Police said on June 5th, Nikulin assaulted and yelled racial slurs at an Asian man riding his bicycle along West Avenue on the college’s campus.
The bicyclist was treated at Cayuga Medical Center for his injuries.
The Tompkins County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the matter to determine whether to upgrade the charge to a hate crime.
