Chesapeake Energy has voluntarily suspended hydrofracking activity in Pennsylvania following a leak in Bradford County.
This follows a spill Tuesday night when a piece of equipment failed at a natural gas well in Leroy Township, causing thousands of gallons of hydrofracking waste water to spill.
There were no injuries, and Chesapeake says there’s no danger to the public.
Officials say they’ve now significantly reduced the flow from the leak, and work has begun to seal it completely.
According to Chesapeake, initial testing of waterways in the area shows little, if any, impact.
Natural gas is also leaking from the well, but officials with both Chesapeake and Bradford County say it doesn’t pose any public safety risk.
Officials still aren’t sure what caused the equipment problem, and Chesapeake has halted operations while the investigation is underway.
