Domestic Dispute Leads to Drug Arrest

The New York State Police in Norwich have arrested 21-year-old Joshua R. Backus of Greene on numerous charges following his involvement in a domestic dispute. Backus was charged with felony Burglary, felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, as well as several misdemeanors. Troopers were called to a residence in the Town of Oxford to investigate a domestic dispute. During their investigation, Backus pushed two people and threatened them with a hammer. He also pointed a gun at them and at tempted to hit them with his vehicle as he left prior to police arriving. It was  later discovered that Backus also entered the residence without permission and with the intent to commit a crime. While Troopers conducted the investigation, Backus drove by the residence. He was stopped, and police seized a gun, a hammer, cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana and pills  from inside the vehicle. Backus was arraigned in the town of Oxford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $40,000 cash bail or $80,000 bond.
