Governor Andrew Cuomo’s “People First” statewide tour made a stop in the Crystal City Wednesday to spread the message of his new legislative agenda.
Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy was at the Radisson Hotel in Corning delivering the agenda of ethics reform, marriage equality and a two percent property tax cap.
Duffy stressed the importance of a tax cap because New York State has the highest property taxes in the nation and he says marriage equality will work to ensure that people don’t leave the state looking for equal rights elsewhere.
“Marriage equality is focused on equal rights for everybody. And when people do not have the same rights as their next door neighbor or their friends, they may choose to go elsewhere as well. To go to a state that does provide that,” Duffy said.
The Lieutenant Governor also spoke about the need to better the state’s education system. Currently, New York spends the most on education nationwide, but is only 34th is results.
