There was flooding in parts of our area yesterday due to the heavy rain. Newark Valley and Spencer were among areas hit with flooding.
That included a church in Spencer. Shortly before 7 pm, storms caused flash flooding on Hulbert Hollow Road in Spencer. At the end of the road is the North Spencer Baptist Church. The water pressure broke the lower windows and came into the building flooding the church and part of the school. By 8:30 last night, there was about three feet of water running through the school and the main gymnasium.
SCHOOL CLOSINGS:
–Watkins Glen School District will be CLOSED on Monday June 15th.
–Newfield Schools will be CLOSED.
–North Spencer Christian Academy will be CLOSED for the remainder of the school year due to a lot of damage.
–Odessa-Montour will have a TWO-HOUR DELAY today.
–My Place: A Play & Learning Center in Montour Falls will be CLOSED today.
update on road closings are as follows:
in spencer owego st, signor hill, crumtown rd (the end by candor rd), Hulbert hollow, and e spencer rd are still closed or impassible as of last updates.
rt 34/96 near Hulbert hollow is one lane only but 34/96 is still closed in Tompkins county (one of the few roads still closed in tompkins).
in candor honeypot, prospect valley, reservoir, Benton, simcoe, lower and upper Fairfield, dry brook, bush rd, and parts of candor hill rd.
in Newark valley parts of howard hill, settle, rock st, Allison hill, Shirley, chamberlain rds still listed as closed.
in owego davis at taylor and Larchmont at sunnyside are both still listed as closed.
in Berkshire rejmer, brown, and legge are all listed as closed.
please note some of these roadways were closed due to flooding so just because there is no water on them does not mean they are safe so use caution on road edges. as always this list is subject to change without notice and could be out of date already as crews could have already cleared some of these during the night.
