Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced a bill that would create an independent redistricting commission.
The Redistricting Reform Act requires the commission to be bi-partisan, free of conflicts of interest and reflect the state’s diversity.
The commission would hold public hearings across the state and then post redistricting plans online.
Cuomo has pledged to veto any redistricting plans done under the existing process and any plan that prioritizes partisan or incumbent interests over the voters’ interests.
