Chenango Bridge and Whitney Point firefighters were called to an early Sunday morning house fire in the Town of Chenango.
The family woke up from the smell of smoke and evacuated safely.
Smoke detectors were installed in the home, but were not working.
The fire was started by the chimney, which ignited the vinyl siding.
The fire was quickly extinguished; the family will be able to remain in the house.
