An Ithaca police officer was injured when his vehicle is hit by a drunk driver. Police say Officer David Amaro was conducting a traffic stop on East Buffalo Street when his patrol car was hit from behind by another vehicle just before 2 a.m. Amaro was seated in his car at the time. The driver fled the scene. Jason Humphrey of Enfield was stopped a short time later, and found to have a blood alcohol level of .23 percent, nearly three times the legal limit. Humphrey was charged with three alcohol-related offenses and leaving the scene of an accident. Officer Amaro was treated at Cayuga Medical Center and released.
