New York’s Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul was at Binghamton University yesterday to announce the six winners of a clean energy business competition. The 76West competition was developed to provide additional funding for companies that are in the clean energy business. A total of $2.5 million was up for grabs in the competition. $1.75 million dollars of that money will now be going to three Southern Tier businesses.
Charge CCCV of Binghamton received $500,000 from the recent competition. The company produces energy efficient batteries with longer lifetimes.
ChromaNanoTech of Binghamton received $250,000 to continue producing a dye that reduces invisible radiation in windows.
And Micatu of Horseheads received the grand prize of $1 million. The company builds highly accurate energy grid monitoring systems.
A total of 175 applicants are said to have entered into the competition.
