Pennsylvania has announced a $200,000 grant that will help pay for the construction of a park to honor veterans from Bradford County.
The Bradford County Veterans Memorial Park is planned for Towanda. Organizers say the state grant is just part of the $500,000 they need to get the project off the ground.
The park will be located on a parcel of land owned by the borough along Route 6. Plans call for a statue of an Army soldier carrying a wounded Marine, a display of the flags of each military branch and several monuments.
The plans are available online at www.bcvmpa.org.
The Towanda Borough Council is in charge of the project. Their next step is to hire an architect to finalize the plans.
