Broome County Executive Debbie Preston has announced details of Broome County’s 2017 budget proposal. Details on the $370 million spending plan were announced yesterday. The proposal would include a 0.77% tax levy increase for county residents. However, in the plan, state and federal funding to help combat the drug epidemic have nearly doubled from last year. The county will now be able to spend roughly $6 million to combat the heroin epidemic.

In addition, the county is coming closer to sharing a larger portion of sales tax with municipalities. Starting next year, municipalities could see about 15% more in sales tax revenue.

In the 2017 budget proposal, funds will be allocated to Willow Point Nursing Home to both retain and hire new nursing staff.

The Broome County Legislature has until November 15th to vote on any changes to the proposal.
