A Cortland County man was killed in a hunting accident on Saturday.
The Department of Environmental Conservation says 54-year-old Alton Carr was shot in the chest by his nephew while the two were hunting in the Town of McGraw around 11am Saturday.
Carr was taken by helicopter to a Syracuse hospital, where he died in surgery.
The DEC says 43-year-old Robert Ross was trying to shoot a deer on his property when he accidentally shot his uncle.
No charges have been filed, but the DEC says they are still investigating.
Hunting season began on Saturday in New York State.
