New York State’s Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is looking to warn New Yorkers of the latest telephone scam sweeping the area. Schneiderman says that scam artists are currently posing as representatives from Microsoft, and are targeting New Yorkers for credit card information. The scammers contact residents by phone and try to talk them into giving remote access to their computers, claiming that the victims have a virus on their system. From there, the thieves ask for credit card, bank, or PayPal account information. The thieves may also be able to change the name that appears on residents’ Caller ID to say “Windows Support”.
