All 17 Salt Miners Rescued in Lansing

The Ithaca Fire Department is announcing that all of the 17 miners trapped in a salt mine in Lansing have been rescued, and appear to be alright.

 

The salt miners in Lansing were stuck in a mining elevator for over 8 hours, about 800 feet below ground level. A crane was called in from Auburn to assist the Lansing Fire Department with rescue operations. The mine is owned and operated by Cargill Salt, Inc near the north shore of Cayuga Lake.
