A new player has been announced in the hunt for one of the region’s casino licenses. Thomas Wilmot Sr. of Rochester has proposed building a $350 million hotel and entertainment project in the small Seneca County town of Tyre. Seneca County is considered in the same gaming region as Tioga and Broome Counties. One of the three upstate gaming regions is eligible to receive two casino licenses, but it’s considered unlikely for the Southern Tier to be the two-casino region. Wilmot says he expects the decisions to be made by the state’s Gaming Commission by the end of 2014.
