New York State Police at Norwich arrested a man in connection with a fire at the Storage Center on Nov. 29, 2013. State police said 25-year-old Michael Golotty was located and arrested in Elmira Monday. He initially became a suspect because he was associated with an individual who owned a storage unit where the fire was set. The fire destroyed 40 units and one of them held thousands of dollars worth of toys for Toys for Tots in Chenango County. State Police said the dollar loss is more than $300,000 but is expected to come in higher because they have not received all of the individual claims yet. Golotty was arraigned in the Norwich Town Court and taken to Chenango County Jail on $50,000 cash bail. State Police said Golotty is from the Norwich area but was reportedly homeless at the time of the fire.
