Further details have been released regarding the fatal motorcycle crash in Binghamton Sunday night. A Binghamton police officer and a former city police officer were both killed in the crash. 28-year-old Officer Katie Brown and 35-year-old Christopher Stoeckel, a former police officer, were killed in the crash along Route 434 near Pennsylvania Avenue. Stoeckel was found dead at the scene, but Brown was taken to Wilson Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The pair were engaged to be married. Stoeckel was reportedly driving the motorcycle with Brown as his passenger, before Stoeckel lost control and struck a guide rail, ejecting both from the vehicle. Speed was determined to be a factor and toxicology results are pending. Brown was a three-year veteran of the Binghamton Police, and Stoeckel served for the department from 2008 through 2012.
