25-year-old charged after shootout with neighbor over dogs in Bradford County

A Bradford County man is behind bars following a shootout with his neighbor on Wednesday.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, 25-year-old Isaiah Covert of New Albany shot his 75-year-old neighbor in an altercation about the suspect’s dogs.

Covert has been charged with aggravated assault, attempt to cause serious bodily injury, a grade one felony, and aggravated assault, attempt to cause injury with a deadly weapon, a grade two felony.

Police were called to the scene at around noon on Wednesday for a report of the victim being shot in the abdomen by his neighbor.

The victim had two gunshot wounds, one to the abdomen and one two the arm.

Police said Covert and his neighbor had a dispute about the suspect’s dogs. Covert and another witness told police that the victim threatened to shoot their dogs that were tied up in their yard.

The incident escalated and both the victim and suspect fired their weapons.

The victim was airlifted to the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

Covert was remanded to the Bradford County Jail without bail.
