ATHENS — Athens Superintendent Craig Stage issued a statement in response to rumors that were swirling that a student had brought a weapon onto school grounds on Tuesday.
Here is the complete statement from Mr. Stage:
My office has received several inquiries concerning a weapon being brought on campus today by a student. There was no weapon brought on campus by a student today. The student was not escorted out by the police. We did however assist our local law enforcement officers in an incident that did occur on school property Friday that was serious in nature. We will not comment any further to not violate the privacy and confidentiality of those individuals involved.
As a district we are committed to being transparent when a real and true threat happens on our campus. This is a great time to remind everyone that it is important to contact us when an issue arises so that we can address it immediately and appropriately. And to our students, if you see something, say something.
Sincerely,
Craig Stage
Superintendent
