It took the Athens Township Volunteer Fire Department less than an hour to put a small fire under control Saturday evening on Mile Land Road. They got the call around 7:30 pm. They arrived to discover that burning embers had spilled out of a boiler after the boiler’s gate had jammed. The embers were smoldering on the floor. Firefighters had the small fire under control in about 45 minutes. Athens Police, Waverly-Barton Fire, and Greater Valley EMS also responded to the scene.
