HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry announced that a Bradford County jury has convicted 43-year-old Matthew Chapman of repeated sexual abuse of a child.
On Tuesday, following a two-day trial, the jury convicted Chapman of indecent assault and corruption of minors.
Chapman, of Ridgebury Township, will be sentenced on February 20, following an assessment by the Sexual Offenders Assessment Board.
“The defendant violated the trust of a vulnerable young child to perpetrate repeated sexual assaults,” Attorney General Henry said. “My office takes its responsibility to protect children very seriously, and we will continue to do everything in our power to protect them from predators who seek to sexually exploit and abuse them.”
According to testimony, the defendant assaulted the child on several occasions while she was sleeping. The defendant’s relationship to the child’s family allowed him access to the sleeping child.
This case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Rebecca Elo.
