Canton woman accused of stealing more than $200,000 from local company

A Canton woman is facing charges after she allegedly stole over $200,000 from a local plumbing and heating company.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, 46-year-old Deanne Bowers stole $209,000 from Schoonover Plumbing and Heating, which is based in Canton.

She is accused of using company credit cards to finance over 1,700 purchases for various goods, including gas, groceries, rent payments, car insurance and payments to family and friends.

The alleged theft occurred from January of 2023 to January of this year.

The owner of the company confronted Bowers after discovering the charges. She allegedly confessed to him that she used hers and company cards issued to former employees.

Bowers claimed she paid the money back but gave the business owner fake documents when asked to prove it. She was then placed on administrative leave.

After that confrontation, she allegedly visited to different stores and bought over $2,000 worth of gift cards through an account the business has with the stores.

Bowers has been charged with felony counts of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and access device used to obtain or attempt to obtain service.
