The Bradford County Commissioners will vote today on disbanding the Bradford County Library Board.
According to the Wyalusing Rocket Courier, an email to the library board from the commissioners said the decision to disband the library board was made after careful consideration and review of the library’s evolving needs and strategic direction.
The library board is currently an advisory board, while in past years it was a governing board with control of the county library’s finances.
The commissioners had announced in 2023 that they wanted to close the library and redirect county funding from the Bradford County Library to other public libraries in the county. In December, the commissioners approved a major cut in funding for the library, which then scaled back its hours from 65 to 47 per week.
The current library board is opposed to any cuts to funding to the county library.
A Facebook page called Friends of the Bradford County Library are urging supporters of the library to attend today’s commissioner’s meeting, which is set for 10 a.m. today (Thursday, March 13) at the Bradford County Courthouse.
