SAYRE – One of the Valley’s most beloved sports traditions will make its return this month as the Epiphany School Basketball Tournament sponsored by Williams Auto Group & Dandy is set for Feb. 17-24.

The tournament began back in 1978 but has not been held since 2020. However, the newly founded Friends of Epiphany School Foundation, with help from previous tournament heads, is bringing the event back to the Valley.

For decades, the best 7th, 8th and 9th grade boys basketball players in the Twin Tiers and beyond descended upon Epiphany School in Sayre to compete in the annual event.

In its’ heyday, the boys tournament field ballooned up to 36 teams and had some extremely tough competition as schools and other clubs battled for the championship inside the Epiphany School gym.

Epiphany later added a girls tournament in 1998, which made the event bigger and better.

Now, the tournament will return with both boys and girls divisions featuring schools from around the Twin Tiers.

The double elimination tournament will feature games starting on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 10:15 a.m. through the finals on Saturday, Feb. 24.
