The first Valley Pride Picnic will take place on Saturday, June 28th, from 11 am to 4 pm at East Waverly Park, located at the east end of Ithaca Street in Waverly, NY.

This local celebration of LGBTQIA Pride will include lots of fun in a relaxed, supportive, and safe atmosphere.

All members of the LGBTQIA+ community from our area, as well as their families, friends, and allies, are welcome to attend. This free, family-friendly event will have food, fun, games, music, trivia, open mic, information tables from various organizations, and more.

Food items will include hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages, carrot dogs, salt potatoes, salads, a variety of chips, watermelon, Whoopie Pies, water, soda, and more!

Organizers say that this will be the first Pride event scheduled in the Valley and is needed due to the uptick in negative rhetoric, attacks on LGBTQIA people, and efforts to undermine their human rights.

To help organizers plan, people are asked to register via the online Google form, which can be found on the “Valley Pride Picnic” Facebook Event page posted by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Athens and Sheshequin (UUCAS) or on the flyer posted at UUCAS, area libraries, and local businesses.

Additional sponsors of the event include The Park Church of Elmira, the Trustees of the Pennsylvania Unitarian Convention, Tioga County (NY) Democratic Committee, Endless Mountains Pride, People’s World News, Kurt’s Making Whoopie, Mad Hatter Cafe, and the Valley Pride Picnic Committee. If you have questions or need more information, contact Andy G. Fagan, Committee Chairperson, at 570-423-3694.
