SAYRE – As work continues on the Friends of Sayre Public Art’s fifth downtown mural, the local artists at the helm of the project wish to remind the community that Sayre is the center of this mural in more ways than one. The 88-foot-long work of art to be installed on the side of the Wheelock Place building at 100 S. Elmer Ave. is truly meant to be a painting for Sayre, by Sayre.
Since the start of February, residents and community members have spent their Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons working alongside lead artists Cat Badger and Dana Twigg, and assisting artists Kevin Heath and Erik Franklin, in the dedicated painting space at The Enterprise Center. The mural canvas technique allows for extensive indoor painting during the cold winter months, enabling a swift installation during the warmer spring and summer weather. This canvas has been designed as a large “paint by number,” providing an inclusive opportunity for the community and artists of all skill levels to contribute to the finished masterpiece.
The Friends of Sayre Public Art encourages the people of Sayre to take part in this exciting opportunity to contribute to the beautification and revitalization of their downtown community – a lot of work has been done, but there is still so much more left to do!
Group organizers welcome anyone interested in Sayre’s public art to reach out and get involved. The group is actively seeking new, dedicated members to assist in fulfilling its mission and there are many ways to help. Committee meetings are held on a monthly basis, and all are welcome to attend.
