(Sayre, Pa.) – Guthrie’s Community Benefit Grant Program awarded $4,740 to the Bradford County Branch YMCA in support of its LIVESTRONG program.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is an evidence-based program that helps adult cancer survivors reclaim their health and well-being following a cancer diagnosis. Exercise during cancer treatment has been shown to decrease fatigue and increase cardiovascular fitness and body composition, and retention of lean body mass during treatment has been linked to better outcomes. The YMCA will use the funds to run two separate 12-week sessions throughout the year.
Adults affected by cancer in the community are invited to participate in this program. Signups are open for the first session of the program which will start in mid-March as well as a second session that will start in July. To sign up, please call 570-268-9622, extension 602 or email [email protected].
Guthrie’s Community Benefit Grant Program funds projects based on Guthrie’s Community Health Needs Assessment. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), requires non-profit hospitals to complete a community needs assessment (CHNA) every three years. The following areas of need were identified for 2020-2022: obesity, access to mental health providers, and cancer incidence with a focus on tobacco usage.
