Several police officers from the Valley will be embarking on the Police Unity Tour which is an annual event to honor fallen officers.
One Athens Borough police officer and four from the Sayre Borough Police Department will be stepping out of their police cruisers to get on bicycles for the tour, which will go down the New Jersey coastline through Atlantic City before taking a ferry over to Washington, DC.
The tour coincides with National Police Week in May and serves as a fundraiser for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum.
The local officers, Bruce Hoffman, Nikki Hoffman, Dan Reynolds, Derek Dekar and Steve Burlingame, will ride in honor of former Bradford County Sheriff’s Deputies Christopher Burgert and Michael Van Kuren, who were killed in the line of duty 20 years ago.
