Medical Condition Causes School Bus Crash in Smithfield Township

A school bus driver experienced a medical condition and crashed into trees yesterday morning with 30 elementary and middle school-aged students on board.
According to Pennsylvania State Police in Towanda, the bus was traveling east on Milan Road in Smithfield Township. State Police said the driver, Tammy Jenkins, was traveling on a slight right-hand curve, when she lost control of the bus due to a medical condition. That’s when Jenkins struck multiple trees, eventually coming to a complete stop. Jenkins and eight students were transported to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre for medical evaluation of minor injuries. Their current conditions are unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
