A 36-year-old Meshoppen man has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman and a state trooper.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, Joseph Caporusso showed up to a woman’s house in Asylum Township pretending to be lost. He allegedly distracted the homeowner and strangled the victim until she was unconscious.
Police said the suspect dragged the woman into the home to continue the assault, but the victim was able to get away from her attacker.
Caporusso crashed his car while attempting to flee the scene of the crime. State troopers were able to capture the suspect after a short foot pursuit. While at the state police barracks, the suspect allegedly kicked a trooper during processing.
Caporusso has been charged with assault on both the female victim and the state trooper. According to state police, charges are also pending for DUI, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and other related crimes.
Caporusso was remanded to the Bradford County Jail on $600,000 bail.
