One person killed in Athens Borough fire

ATHENS BOROUGH — One person was killed during a fire that destroyed a house in Athens Borough on Wednesday night.

The fire broke out at around 9:30 p.m. on the 200 block of Tyler Street in Athens. Multiple firefighters on scene confirmed that one person was killed during the fire.

Athens Borough Police have identified the victim as 62-year-old Donald R. Chandler.

Following a preliminary investigation, the Pennsylvania State Fire Marshals have concluded that the fire was caused by arson. The fire is still under investigation.

The Athens Borough Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from Athens Township, Sayre, Waverly-Barton and North Towanda as well as Greater Valley EMS and local police.
