Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett presented the state’s proposed budget plan for 2014-2015 fiscal year on Tuesday. The Republican gave the budget address in front of the General Assembly in Harrisburg. Corbett said the $29.4 billion spending plan is focused on education.
He is proposing $314 million for a new program, Ready to Learn, to promote academic excellence in public schools. His education plan would add $10 million to the Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts program and increase the state’s special education funding. He said school districts have not seen an increase in special education funding in six years. The Governor also touched on promoting business development and job creation. He is proposing to fund four new classes of cadets for the Pennsylvania State Police, adding 350 new state troopers. The State Senate will begin reviewing the budget on February 10th. Pennsylvania’s fiscal year starts July 1st.
